Bourice Racheal

About me

A cybersecurity analyst who believes that protecting systems is ultimately about protecting people. I specialize in SOC Operations, threat intelligence and incident response, with hands-on training from AfricaHackon Academy and 3+ years of real-world experience in data governance and operations. I’m the person in the room who asks why before how, documents everything, and stays curious long after everyone else has moved on. I’m building toward becoming a CISO, one deliberate step at a time.

Work Experience

Apprenticeship
Africa Hackon Academy 2025-07-15 - 2025-12-31 AfricaHackon Academy is where theory became instinct. Spent 7 months at AfricaHackon Academy getting my hands dirty in the kind of cybersecurity work that actually matters, hunting threats, responding to incidents, and digging through digital evidence like a detective. I trained on real-world simulations covering the full attack and defense cycle, from spotting a breach to containing it and writing up exactly what happened. I worked with tools like Kali Linux, Wireshark, and the MITRE ATT&CK framework, competed in CTF challenges, and built a public GitHub to document everything I learned. I didn't just study cybersecurity, I practiced it. I graduated knowing this is exactly the field I'm meant to be in, and I was hungry to do more.
Administrative & Engagement Specialist
Gifted Hearts Kenya Foundation 2024-01-03 - 2026-04-13 Data doesn't lie, and neither do I when it comes to protecting it. In this role I manage the organisation's CRM system, making sure every record is accurate, access-controlled, and handled with the same discipline a SOC analyst applies to security logs. I coordinate communications across energy and utilities sector partners, producing structured reports that have cut our internal response times by 35%. What excites me most is that this work taught me something every cybersecurity professional needs to internalize: security is only as strong as the processes and people behind it. Handling sensitive stakeholder data under strict confidentiality requirements every day isn't just a job task, it's where my security mindset was forged.
Client Relations Officer | Data Analysis & System Integrity
OSU Tailoring & Fashion Design Ltd. 2022-07-05 - 2025-01-01 This is where I first learned to love troubleshooting. I was the first point of contact for every client issue that came through, which meant I had to triage fast, think clearly under pressure, and resolve problems the right way the first time. I maintained 100% accuracy across all client records and closed 90% of issues on first contact. I also ran internal training sessions, which taught me that the best security culture isn't built through policies, it's built through people who actually understand why the rules exist. Looking back, everything I did here maps directly onto incident triage, data integrity, and team knowledge-sharing inside a SOC.
